Warning if you've ever tragically lost a child this drama may not be for you. The first two episodes are especially disturbing. I started watching this suspense thriller Korean drama God's Gift 14 Days 2014, about the abduction and murder of a little girl, when it first aired on Dramafever, because it starred two of my top favorite Korean actors in the world, Lee Bo Young from I Hear Your Voice 2013 and Cho Seung Woo from my favorite Korean film ever, The Classic 2003. Perhaps it was too soon for me to watch another show with wonderful actress Lee Bo Young after falling so deeply in love with I Hear Your Voice, because I had troubles switching allegiances to her different character in God's Gift 14 Days. Whereas her character in I Hear Your Voice was mostly cool, calm, and collected, here in God's Gift her character, a news writer and editor at a broadcast station, was frenzied and so emotionally distraught through the horrific nightmare of her child's kidnapping and murder, that I missed her more calm lawyer character in the prior show. The raw emotions of the first two episodes in this drama were almost too much for me at the time. In this drama I had to try hard to understand her character's feelings of desperation when her child went missing, after all I had five children of my own, but I somehow kept thinking to myself if her lawyer character in Voice were handling this situation she would have found the child before her murder took place, just because she would have realized that panic serves no function at all when your child's life is at stake, and that it is necessary to work with police to increase the chances of finding a kidnapped child, instead of trying to go it alone appealing to the kidnapper to do the right thing. Criminally insane people don't know right from wrong. Appeals are not going to work with them. They want money, or to make some kind of sick political statement with their reprehensible actions. My Favorite Little Scene So Sweet! So I ended up putting aside this drama for awhile and then after I read the actress got married and was expecting a child I thought to myself, "Heck, it might be years before I see her in another drama, so I should go back to God's Gift and finally finish it, because I really miss watching her act." I ended up enjoying the drama much more than I thought I would as it turns out her character DOES become more cool, calm, and collected, especially when God gives her a second chance to save her little daughter by dramatically having her go back in time two weeks so she could try and change events leading up to her baby's death. The writing was truly excellent in this show and pretty wise about human nature. When the Mom goes back in time, she finds1 her liberal lawyer husband Tae Woo Kim, who played the evil villain Mu Chul in That Winter, The Wind Blows doesn't believe her warnings about the future and thinks she is nuts, which ends up straining her marriage to the breaking point, and 2 someone else goes back in time with her, the savvy, but on the wild side, private detective Dong Chan Ki Cho Seung Woo, in a fantastic performance ... but then he's always fantastic!. His character adds several unique layers to this story that I didn't realize at first would be forthcoming. Thank God for him because he even added some much needed humor at times to this dark tale. Pretty Lee Bo Young and wonderful child actress Yoo Bin Kim make a very natural mother-daughter pair their characters have their ups and downs, just like any real mother and daughter. Also, I was impressed by the way the character of the child was written in this show. A classic Hollywood tale would have the kidnapped child a Little Miss Perfect, like a Shirley Temple; instead the character of Saet Byul brilliant child actress Yoo Bin Kim from The Princess' Man was often cranky, spoiled, did poorly in school, wouldn't listen to her mother which got her into all kinds of trouble ... you know, more like REAL kids. I love this about Korean drama writers - they aren't afraid to do something a little differently, to yank your chains a bit. I actually read posts on the Dramafever board for this show along the lines of, "this kid is a brat!" or "this kid isn't even pretty!" or "who cares what happens to the kid, she deserves it!" Unbelievable! A child is a child, and always deserves protection and compassion. They failed to see that this is what the writers and director wanted to portray in the first place. A real family, real people, real lives, but soon to be touched by a miracle of God. God's Gift begins with a stunning animated opening where Lee Bo Young recites a haunting story to her daughter about a mother who grieves after losing her child, and she is willing to gauge her own eyes out if it can help her get her baby back. Then we open on their family life and learning more about them. Soo Hyun Kim Lee Bo Young is a busy working mother, a news writer at a big broadcast station who is happily married to a busy lawyer Ji Hoon Han Tae Woo Kim; her little girl Saet Byul Yoo Bin Kim is often a handful but she loves her dearly, helps her do her homework methodically, and tries to get her into extra curricular activities, which often leave Saet Byul feeling overwhelmed. The child really needed more playtime with other children but the parents are modern yuppie types and have her busy all the time with lessons on everything from English to violin, when she really needed more downtime in order just to be a child. However, the little girl loves people, and always tries to help anyone who needs extra care, like the retarded teenage boy Young Gyu Ki Sun Woo Cha who hangs around her apartment complex with nothing to do for hours, or a little girl who feels like she cannot go to school because she has a new puppy to take care of; Saet Byul is smart on her feet, and helps to find solutions to others' problems, but schoolwork is simply not her forte. Mom is constantly being called to the school because she fails most of her tests. As an escape little Saet Byul fixates on a rocker named Snake No Min Woo in another bizarre performance and she wants nothing more than to go to one of his concerts and meet him in person. Be careful what you wish for, little girl, it might come true! Why does actor No Min Woo always get to play so many weirdo personalities? On a national broadcast to catch fugitives, a murderer calls the station where Soo Hyun works and announces he is tired of killing adult women and is focusing on doing something a little different. Suddenly we hear little Saet Byul's voice crying, "Mom! Mom!" Soo Hyun is shaken to her core and quickly realizes that the women who were supposed to be watching over Saet Byul had failed her and the child had slipped away from them. Grief-stricken, Soo Hyun and her husband do what they can at first to cooperate with authorities to get their daughter back, especially after a ransom demand comes in for billions of won, but Soo Hyun is led astray by a copy cat criminal who pretends to have her daughter and poses as the real criminal in order to get that money. After a wild goose chase on a train and Soo Hyun being severely beaten in pursuit of the man she thinks has her child, she finally realizes it's all a hoax and tries to appeal to the real criminal in a nationwide broadcast. This missing child case attracts the public's interest and the story reaches all the way to the Blue House and the President of Korea and his Minister of Justice, who ends up being a sneaky, corrupt little devil as the story progresses. Soo Hyun is desperate to get her child back, even trying an appeal on national television While Soo Hyun is going through her horrific experience, private investigator / former detective for the police force Dong Chan Ki Cho Seung Woo is having his own troubles. He and his cohorts are trying every which way to make hard cash and are not past illegally entering homes to collect debts for clients, or spying on cheating spouses by breaking in on them during the act; one case like the latter goes terribly wrong, and the woman client gets him drunk and he spends the night with her, rousing the jealousy of her gangster husband, who goes after Dong Chan personally to seek revenge. He and his thugs tie him to a rope and a heavy rock and cast him into the lake - at the same time and in the same place as the shaken Soo Hyun - having discovered her child was murdered - is about to commit suicide because the pain of living without her baby is too hard for her to bare. And at the same time as Soo Hyun and Dong Chan are to die, Dong Chan's mentally frail brother is about to be hanged in jail for a murder he did not commit. Dong Chan spies Soo Hyun from a distance and screams "Ahjumma! Call the police!" but Soo Hyun is too dazed to even notice him. Soo Hyun and Dong Chan sink to the bottom of the lake but in a dazzling underwater scene both are delivered from their watery deaths via God's grace, and when they awake on the ground it is two weeks earlier than the date they "died". They are not even aware of it at first - Soo Hyun returns home on her birthday to see her husband and daughter surprising her with a cake and presents, and Dong Chan goes to the police station to report the thugs who "murdered" him but of course they have no idea what he is talking about and there is no reason to arrest them. Soo Hyun and Dong Chan eventually figure out what happened to them and they decide to team up, first of all to try and prevent the murders of the three women that we had heard about on the national broadcast, and second of all to try and save their own loved ones from death, for Soo Hyun it is Saet Byul and for Dong Chan it's his mentally ill brother in jail. Dong Chan also is able to change his behavior for the better, in some ways due to avarice at first an old grandfatherly type he hung out with on the rooftop of his apartment building, named Byung Ho Goo Shin kept promising him he'd leave his money to him if he improved his life. Dong Chan thought the man was kidding, but before he had been cast into the water in the past he had heard that the grandpa was filthy rich and was not kidding at all. Dong Chan even brings Soo Hyun around to meet him so she can give a positive testimony about his changed life, that is now dedicated to saving others. Will the old geezer buy it? Soo Hyun and Dong Chan put themselves at risk trying to save the three murder victims, hoping to find out and stop the murderer of the women because they believe he is going to be the eventual murderer of Saet Byul. At one point Soo Hyun even has to don the outfit of a lady of the night, to help her escape death. This causes Dong Chan for the first time to notice her as a woman. At home, Soo Hyun's husband is less than thrilled with his wife's constant ramblings about Saet Byul's future murder, he thinks she is going insane, and he objects to her hanging out so much with Dong Chan and his cohorts to try and stop murders that haven't even taken place yet! The cops even think she is nuts, including an old boyfriend of hers, attractive Woo Jin Hyun handsome actor Gyu Woo Jung from Love In Memory. With each case they are able to make some changes, although eventually each victim remains a victim, which is heartbreaking to watch. Despair enters Soo Hyun yet again - how can she expect to save her child from her inevitable fate if the women victims could not be saved? And what if the murderer of those women actually had nothing to do with Saet Byul's kidnapping and death at all? Jealousy rears its ugly head in the marriage of Soo Hyun and Ji Hoon as she teams up with Dong Chan There are so many twists and turns in this story that will leave you breathless. The pace goes very quickly and the seventeen hours of the series will fly by and seem like half that time. Both Lee Bo Young and Cho Seung Woo are consummate professionals who have a lot of chemistry together in this drama; however don't look for any mushy kiss scenes in this one - the drama remains focused on preventing Saet Byul's murder, first and foremost. The real murderer is not someone you will expect at all, and the tentacles of this case reach up and have a lot to do with some powerful, high profile individuals. It will take a miracle to save Saet Byul, and Soo Hyun and Dong Chan and his brother as well. However, God is still in the business of miracles so our protagonists never give up while striving to stay alive against a lot of evil influences attacking them.

We don't know why but she is given a second chance to save her daughter and herself by going back in time. The early episodes are excellent as we are thrilled by our heroine's courage followed by despair when it seems like every time the little girl is rescued, another hurdle came along, as though all roads lead to the same inescapable Bo Young is one of my favorite Korean actresses and her performance here is flawless. Her costar Cho Seung-woo is absolutely brilliant as well. He saved the show by his rebellious and so endearing character, what charisma this actor radiates even when he's playing a burnout depressive ex-cop! The little girl is so adorably cute that you just want the show to have more screen time with her, her mom and the ex-cop, instead of scenes after scenes of our leads running after one mysterious serial killer after that's my problem with this show. Without giving away main storyline or spoilers, it seems to me that the script writer equates thrill with the number of serial killers, other bad guys and riddles you can fit into a 16-episode series. How many times can a girl be kidnapped within a story? More than in 24 season 1 for those who have watched that adrenaline-filled classic with Kiefer Sutherland. Instead of a coherent storyline and a fitting ending whether it is happy or tragic we're given a series of riddles and action scenes and an ending that made no sense in terms of providing a logical conclusion that is believable - even within the context of a supernatural thriller. Since this is fiction, I have no issue with the premise of a "second chance". What I am not able to accept is a pseudo-artistic ending where the characters behave in ways beyond any reason with an outcome that's not justified or explained in any would rate the lead actors a 10 while the script and direction get a 4. So while I enjoyed the fantastic performance of the trio of actors, I can only commiserate with them to be letdown by such a miserable script which doesn't know how to tell and end a story, despite a very good start and 3, 2020Contribute to this pageSuggest an edit or add missing contentBy what name was God's Gift 14 Days 2014 officially released in Canada in English?AnswerEdit pageAdd episodeMore to exploreRecently viewedYou have no recently viewed pages

God's Gift - 14 Days This is a 16 episode Korean TV drama from 2014. It is primarily a mystery/thriller with a touch of a fantasy AHEAD!Story A seemingly perfect husband & wife's young child is kidnapped and eventually found dead. The mother is distraught and tries to drown herself, but she fails. When she awakens from her unsuccessful suicide attempt, she finds she has traveled back in time 14 days prior to her daughter's death. Events from the previous 2 weeks start repeating themselves, and she soon realizes she better figure out what's going on in order to prevent the future death of her daughter from happening initial premise of the show is set up quite well. It's not clear why this woman was sent back in time or why she's the only one who's aware of the events to come. It is apparently due to "God's gift", but this is never fully explained and there are very little religious overtones here. In fact, this time travel plot often gets lost in the scheme of things, except mostly at the beginning of the show, and at the very end; it does pop up occasionally, but this show spends a considerable amount of time focusing on its mystery and thriller elements instead. And surprisingly, there are very few romantic, comedic, or familiar melodramatic aspects to be found at all. It makes sense to not include these standard K-drama motifs in a show like this though; after all, what couple really has time for romance and fun with their costars when their daughter is about to be murdered? While I appreciate the effort to avoid typical K-drama themes for a change, the absence of these themes does create some problems when you have 16 hours to fill with nothing but one continuing mystery/thriller plot line. As such, this story is often unnecessarily byzantine during its run time; once this show hits its stride, there's a bevy of characters introduced who may or may not be the eventual kidnapper/killer, or who may be connected to the crime in some way. Each week it appears they might have finally caught the actual bad guys, only to find one more layer of the onion to peel back in next week's episode. The show is good at keeping you guessing who the culprits is/are, but this rinse and repeat approach to storytelling does becomes tedious when you have to keep it going for much longer than is really from a few missteps, production values are satisfactory for a K-drama for the most part, though there are a few scenes and one glaring one involving a car skidding out of control where the editing and CGI departments didn't quite get the job done. There's only so much these departments can do on a TV show though that airs twice is pretty solid, and the writers did pen an interesting & intricate story that they clearly worked very hard on. You'll have to pay attention in order to start connecting everything together down the stretch run, and this isn't always easy when you're a K-drama binge watcher like I am who also likes to have a few drinks along the way. The story is not really complicated, but I often prefer my K-dramas to require as little attention as possible while viewing, and this is a show that really doesn't afford you that is mostly solid, but there are a few insufferably annoying characters on this show that will make you want to punch your TV. And as usual, you have to view everybody's performances here under the guise & understanding of how these K-dramas roles are typically portrayed. Lee Bo-young is fantastic throughout in the lead role of the desperate mom who'll do anything to save her daughter's life. Cho Seung-woo is solid as the main costar portraying a washed up cop trying to help Bo-young's character & her daughter while also trying to save his retarded brother on death row, heal past wounds, & reconnect with his family. There's various other important starring &/or supporting characters that are too numerous to mention in great detail Bo-young's husband, the police squad leader, various potential bad guys, etc, but, I must give some credit to the 8-9 year old girl Kim Yoo-bin who plays the young daughter; she's tasked with portraying a number of traits and emotions of a typical girl of that age, while acting opposite adults. Her character is also forever getting kidnapped, threatened, and put in harm's way by a host of menacing bad guys; this would seem a bit scary to me if I were a little girl, but Yoo-bin just rolls with it all like a while there is no real humor to speak of, there is one thing which recurs time and again that I found particularly amusing; the husband and wife's baffling lapses in remembering that practically everyone in Korea is trying to kidnap & kill their little daughter. They both love and want to protect her, and often go to great lengths to save her, then they just let her wander off again, or leave her in the care of some incompetent weirdo or stranger or someone they know holds a grudge against them. I guess you need some means by which to keep the daughter in continual peril It's pretty good, but it has some faults and probably should've been pared down to the 12 episode range. I liked it overall, but I would have rated this at least a point lower than I did, if not for how it concluded. You'll have to sit & sift through A LOT in order to get the finish line, so the final payoff better be good when you eventually get there, and it is!Bottom Line to 8 out of 10 stars. God’s Gift 14 Days is a suspense drama about a woman Lee Bo Young whose daughter is kidnapped and murdered, but she gets the opportunity to go back in time and try to prevent her daughter’s death with the help of a detective Jo Seung Woo. God’s Gift 14 Days is one of those dramas that has been on my watch list pretty much since it came out, but I just never made it around to watching it. Well, I finally did, but sadly, the drama was a big disappointment. So let’s get into it. Lee Bo Young plays Kim Soo Hyun who works for a crime solving TV show. Her life is turned upside down when her daughter is kidnapped and ultimately murdered. But when she gets the chance to relive the time leading up to that, she desperately works to save her. Jo Seung Woo is Ki Dong Chan who is a has-been detective that finds himself mixed up with Soo Hyun and her daughter. He’s a lively character who is very rough around the edges, but he has a good heart and carries around some trauma. So why didn’t God’s Gift 14 Days work for me? First, I just plain struggled to get into this drama from start to finish. I’ve seen it described as being very suspenseful repeatedly, but it didn’t feel very intense to me. It should have since the stakes are quite high and there is plenty of action, but it just didn’t. I got more bored as it went along despite the thickening story and a whole lot going on. This was also a rare case for me where the story felt very forced. There are so many convenient plot devices used one right after the other. It really was too much and made everything feel so unnatural. And the police work and logic was pretty awful too. The characters in this drama also make some very illogical choices, and quite a few of them at that. Soo Hyun certainly made her fair share of bad decisions. I found Soo Hyun’s husband Ji Hoo Kim Tae Woo to be a difficult character as he does some very questionable things that just didn’t make sense, especially if he even remotely cared for his wife. I know he was meant to cause additional conflict, but he was too much. On the plus side, the drama is plotted pretty well with new things always going on. There is actually a pretty elaborate mystery in place with a lot of layers of the story to peel back. This does allow for some twists and big reveals. It’s like the concept of the story is good, but much of the details and how it unfolds is what is not so great. I thought the way the story was laid out was a tad confusing and certain story elements weren’t adequately explained. There were many times that I wondered why things happened and was kind of left in the dark. Just enough was explained to get the gist of things, but the full explanation remained cloudy. Then everything just gets so complicated and crazy that I found it all to be pretty ridiculous. Now all of the actors were wonderful in the drama. Everyone is cast well, and they go all in for their characters. Lee Bo Young was particularly good as our leading lady. I could really feel her desperation to save her daughter. Jo Seung Woo was also very enjoyable with his lively character that added a bit of levity in the beginning and then progressed to being quite intense in the latter part. Jo Seung Woo and Lee Bo Young also made a pretty good team and worked well together. Then there’s the central relationship of a mother and her daughter. It’s a relationship that starts out quite strained, but then losing Saet Byul Kim Yoo Bin opens Soo Hyun’s eyes to what’s important. And Soo Hyun will do anything to save Saet Byul. Her love for her daughter is very moving. Although I do have to mention that this child has a bad a habit of getting herself in dangerous situations and really doesn’t make it easy to avoid getting kidnapped. She’s a sweet kid, but she sure doesn’t listen, breaks the rules, sneaks out, and cries a whole lot. It certainly makes the bad guy’s job easier and mom’s job a lot harder. So aside from this drama being known as a suspenseful and thrilling tale, the other big thing it is known for is its ending. Without spoiling it, for those who don’t like somewhat open and rushed endings, this drama will be a big disappointment. I’ve heard about that from fans many times over the years and it is understandable considering how much build up there is for the ending. Since I wasn’t really feeling the drama, I was actually kind of hoping it would just go all out be completely crazy and terrible after all that discontent from fans. But I was disappointed again, lol. Like I said, it’s rushed, left open, and doesn’t explain things well. But I mostly felt neutral towards it. I can see why others would be far more disappointed than me though, especially if you were enjoying the drama. As you can see, I had quite a few issues with God’s Gift 14 Days. It’s disappointing since I was expecting a pretty high quality thriller and instead got an overly complicated, messy, and un-engaging drama. But there are a whole lot of people who loved this drama and enjoyed it for the most part. So maybe give it a go, but watch out for that ending! My Rating 5/10 Read more Kdrama Reviews. Personally I absolutlely love it when there is a special or "extra" content, and there even is a special clip of the directors ending cut, so a few more pieces were put together, but not entirely, you'll have to see for yourself. Also the preview of "Doctor Stranger" was quick and really fun! Are you too eager to see Lee Jong Suk again? Then you're in luck, there's a little "interview" for him as well as the other main leads, and we get to know their characters a bit more. Ki Dong Chan is the perfect character and this show should have gotten a second season, even if it was to follow him into stupid adventures. This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth. Kinda disappointed with the ending. Why did Ki Dong-chan chose to die < Baro is stupid good in this… that is all thank you for adding this! “AJUMMA, SO YOU BIT THE BASTARD? AJUMMA, THIS ISNT TWILIGHT” iconic since i can't find bootlegs of korean musicals, we need to abuse the shit out of Cho Seung Woo's voice in every film for scientific reasons korean 🇰🇷it's been so long but i still remember i cried in class over that one scene where lee boyoung cries for her daughter to be back it hurts so bad and she's soooo good I love Hwang Si-mok, but Ki Dong-chan will always have a special place in my heart. 🤍Ahjussi .
